OK, iThings,
SHAPE UP!
I was going through my iCalendar this morning, looking for a medical appointment I was certain that I had scheduled. Nope. Not there.
I looked on two of my iThings and still, no luck.
I gave up, called the doctor's office and asked to schedule an appointment. The scheduler asked if I wanted to change the appointment I already had.
iEmbarrassed.
I explained to her what had happened, that I couldn't find the appointment I had apparently already made, she gave me the date and time and we laughed together. Hah Hah Hah Hah hah hah hah
I entered---again---the date and time in my iCalendar and it asked if I wanted it in iCloud or in my Mac Calendar. When I chose iCloud, the appointment was already there! I had assumed, incorrectly, that putting something in iCloud meant that iCloud sent it to all Things i.
Apparently it does not.
So I entered the appointment in my Mac iCalendar, and now it is in all of my iThings.
I figure that by the time I understand how all iThings work, Apple will change how all iThings work.
And this will be me:

Technology----PAH!

I bought a 4S iPhone yesterday and now everything is messed up. I can't get Comcast mail on either my iPhone or my Mac and I don't know why. I can't sync calendars, the music on iTunes for my iPod won't load on the new iPhone and I don't know what the heck I'm doing. The iPhone is linked to iCloud, but I can't link the Mac to iCloud until I get the Mac updated to Lion OS. I can't upgrade to Lion OS until Monday when I have an appointment at the Genius Bar, and I'm hoping to convince a Genius to upgrade it for me since I can't because I tried one too many times with the wrong registration number for the Mac. So all of this technology is causing me to get a gray hair or two....
And Baxter is lying upright on my chest, putting his (wet-ick) paw on my face.
And I don't want to know why his paws are wet.

Don't Believe I'da Told That
As I've mentioned before, I love the Post Office! Especially since they put in machines that let me address and print out postage on a label for packages when the PO isn't even open.
On Monday night I went to the Post Office to mail a package to younger daughter, who lives in LA. I put the package on the scale and entered her zip code into the computer. The computer said something along the lines of: that zip code does not exist.
Great. At home I had just entered the address into the address book feature of my iPhone and assumed I had the correct one. What to do? Oh, that's right. My address book is ALSO my phone!!!
I called yd, asked her for her correct zip code, entered it into the computer as we talked about other things, and then wrote the rest of the address on the label.
We were still talking when I finally gathered everything up to leave, but ......where was my phone???
OMG! How can I lose my phone when I have been standing in the same place for the past five minutes??? I rustled through my purse, checked the floor, and got more and more frustrated and puzzled. I kept saying to yd that I just couldn't understand how this had happened.
Yd: You can't find your phone?
Me: Yes, I can't find it and I just had it out in order to correct your zip code.
Yd: Uh, what are you talking to me on?
Oh, dear.
Now I understand what my brain was doing; the phone feature and the address book feature were two distinct and different features to me. My previous phone was just a .....phone. I made and received phone calls on it. No camera, no Internet, no address book, no e-mails, just phone calls.
My poor old brain has not adjusted to new technology.
At dinner last night, I told this story to dh. He stared at me for the longest time, and then said, I don't think I would have told you that story.
Well, I thought a significant other was the one person you could tell anything to (maybe not about the amount of stash you have, or the price of a pair of shoes). But really, anything.
Apparently not.

So here's the Lewis Grizzard portion of the post. I met him ages ago at a book signing at a K-Mart of all places. I hadn't known that K-Mart sold books, and neither had anyone else apparently. Only I and two or three other people showed up. So we had a chance to chat, which was a treat, and I bought a book or two and a tape. Remember tapes?
The tape was titled Don't Believe I'da Told That. And here is one of the stories (the cleanest, I think) that was on the tape. Paraphrased, because it's been a long time:
Two men were sitting in the bleachers waiting for the start of a football game. They were drinking beer, chatting. One noticed a male dog, sitting down on the field, licking himself. The man watched for a moment and then said to his friend: I wish I could do that.
The friend looked at the dog and then replied: That dog would B..i..t..e.

Friday Fragments: Monday Edition

Really, so far, just a couple of questions, one fact and one observation:
Questions:
I really red-puffy-heart Mrs. G. over at The Women's Colony big time, and she uses Photo-Shop so I want photo-shop. But is it user friendly enough for this user to use ? Or would I need one of my daughters to talk me though every step because, believe me, neither of them wants to do this. And do I buy it at a store or download it? Is it expensive?
Are blogger and igoogle related? I changed something on my igoogle settings and the change showed up on my blogger dashboard. I'm confused.
Are subscribe and please, please join my followers redundant?
Is Magic Johnson so desperate for money that he really has to do radio ads for Rent-A-Center or does he just not mind helping rip off poor people?
Fact:
I have an iphone, a hand-me-down iphone from my husband because he needed the newer model because it has a longer-lasting battery and since he travels on business and is not near a charger when he is in meetings and such all day and he keeps losing his charger anyway, leaving them in motel rooms, phew, he has the new one. I know everyone loves iphones; I know they are amazing. I know I did sort of want one when I read that I could download a Kindle reading application which would let me read a book completely on impulse if I were someplace where I didn’t have a book or knitting with me (it could happen), but I’m still not sure what to do with it. I love, love, love my ipod and want to take it and my knitting with me when I go to a better place, but, so far, I think that my iphone can stay behind. I kind of miss my little phone that made phone calls and received phone calls.
The iphone, however, does have a level in it, which I completely appreciate because I am pretty much OCD about everything in the world's being level, so I’ll give it (the phone) a chance.
Observation:
I learned last night that pushing the enter key on the computer is not the same as pushing the up or down button on an elevator, which SOME people (not I) do to make the elevator get here faster. Doesn't work.
BUT, pushing the enter key a number of times when the internet won't open, and then giving up and going to Word to write a blog post, doesn't just get you the internet once. As I was typing, I noticed that the letters and words I was typing took a l.o.n.g. time to show up on the screen. Then I noticed that in the tray was: 12 internet. Oops. I had opened the internet twelve times, not one time more quickly.
Pushing the up or down button on the elevator twelve times gets you one elevator. Pushing the enter key twelve times on the keyboard gets you twelve internets and in the process, makes you think that your computer is dying. Going to a better place, as it were....
